Because of the angle from which this photo was taken, it’s hard to tell that I’m holding that medal up; after the picture, I let go of it, and the weight of it falling made me double over. Damn thing weighs like 5 pounds–it’s about the size of my face.

4:42:08. That is a great finish. I want to offer my congratulations. I saw other racers with their medals hanging around their necks looking like they had a bad case of osteoporosis. Perhaps declining the medal would save one from further injury.
