Team McAlister

While it’s always a little odd to write about oneself, maybe a few words about who we are would be appropriate here.  This is especially difficult for me as I am old-fashioned enough (that’s a quaint term that roughly equates to “old school”) to be very suspicious of anyone who is blatantly self-promoting.  But, I guess we’re going to do it anyway, so here goes.

We’re a father and three sons that have agreed to compete in an Ironman-length triathlon to celebrate Dad’s 60th birthday in 2013.  Lou (dad) is in Little Rock, Arkansas.  Jett is in Chicago.  Colin and Schuyler are in San Francisco – at least for now.  We lead relatively normal lives and are just regular guys – not an elite athlete in the bunch.  Our similarities and common likes include: chocolate, music, movies, world travel, razor-sharp wits, dangerously good looks, and excellent taste in clothes.  Our differences must remain a mystery to the public, since they are largely a mystery to us also.  No pun is safe around us though.  (It may be the lowest form of humor, but we’ll go there in a heartbeat.)

Jett (29) is a poet and doctoral student in Chicago.  Colin (24) is an art student in San Francisco.  Schuyler (19) is currently an interpretive naturalist and fire arts student in the Bay Area.  Lou (55) regulates the funkiness at a company he founded in 1997.

The challenges of completing an Ironman aside, we want to all complete the same one on the same date, even if not in the same time.  Of course, I (dad) hope we learn about our personal limits.  I hope we learn about what motivates each other and how we can push each other and pull each other along.  I hope we serve as an inspiration to each other, and maybe even, to others as we work toward our goal.
